It provides a way for people to come together and celebrate India's independence through a collective expression of patriotism.
The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign organized by the central government in India has garnered significant participation with over 40 million selfies received from people across the country according to the campaign website. The initiative which aims to promote patriotism and national pride coincides with India's 77th Independence Day celebrations and runs from August 13 to August 15.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged citizens to actively engage in the campaign by changing their social media display pictures to the national flag. The website indicates that 43,644,013 (approximately 4.3 million) selfies with the Tricolour have been submitted.
The campaign's website features two main options for users uploading a selfie with the flag and a digital representation of the Tricolour. Notably, the homepage showcases images of Union ministers, actors, and sportspersons proudly displaying the Indian flag.
As part of the wider celebrations for India second Independence Day of the Amrit Kal events will take place over the course of a week. In addition to the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, silent processions are planned for Partition Day on August 14 commemorating the Partition of India and honoring the victims of the violence during that period.
The highlight of the celebrations will be the Independence Day Flag hoisting ceremony at the iconic Red Fort in Delhi, where around 1,800 special guests from across India will be in attendance to witness Prime Minister Modi's address.
