The NFL along with the Baltimore Ravens and Seattle Seahawks has issued a joint statement expressing their grief over the loss of Alex Collins.
The tragic incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. ET on Sunday. Collins was riding a 2004 Suzuki GSX R600K motorcycle traveling eastbound. A Chevrolet Suburban SUV which was heading south on Northwest 33rd Ave made a left turn and entered the path of the motorcycle. The collision took place at the rear passenger side of the SUV. The impact caused Collins to come to a stop within the SUV. Collins was tragically declared deceased at the site. Authorities are currently looking into the circumstances leading up to the collision. Alex Collins, who was set to turn 29 on August 28, was a fifth round selection by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2016 NFL Draft having played college football at Arkansas. Over his five year NFL career Collins amassed 483 carries for 1,997 yards and 18 touchdowns, alongside 467 receiving yards, across 50 games, with 29 of those as a starter. His energetic post touchdown Irish dance celebrations were also a memorable part of his playing style. His passing is a profound loss for the NFL community and his memory will be remembered by fans and fellow players alike. Although Collins had two stints with the Seahawks his most notable season came during his time with the Baltimore Ravens. In 2017 he had a standout year, rushing for a career high 973 yards and contributing six touchdowns making him a pivotal part of the Ravens rushing attack.
While his NFL journey concluded in 2021 Collins continued to pursue his passion for football by joining the Memphis Showboats of the United States Football League (USFL) in the spring of this year. However, his time there was cut short due to an injury that led to his placement on the injured reserve list in May.
